Gay marriage, or as I like to call it, marriage, is a hot button topic for some reason. People just freak out over consenting adults tying the knot. The perceive it as a threat, no clue why though. They say it’s a threat to marriage, my parents have been married for 32 years and feel in no way threatened by(i asked). Besides, even with out same-sex marriage the divorce rate in the U.S. is 41% for first marriages, 60% for second, 73% for third. Most of these divorces are caused by bad communication, infidelity, poor finances, no one said anything about the couple across the street getting married.
People say that it violates the sanctity of marriage, including politicians. Sanctity is a religious/spiritual term, that mean lawmakers can’t make laws for or against what ever religion finds is sacred. That’d be all of them. Fortunately marriage is not a religious rite, there are rites for marriage but a person has the option to find a judge or captain to marry them. Or, if a person isn’t into romance the couple, Justice of the peace, and a witness can sign a paper, something that they have to do any ways only this is with out the fancy party.
Fun fact, most marriages back in the day where essentially business deals, some still are. Nothing says sacred like gold digging.
Long story short, I’m all right with consenting adults getting married. Don’t have a problem with polygamy either, again, consenting adults, and as long as they stay consenting I’m okay with it.
